At the core of GPP’s philosophy is creating meaningful relationships with aligned organizations in order to fulfill our mission of connecting youth, preserving culture while encouraging healthy engagement, and engaging in sustainable development projects.
Dogon Dreams is an organization supporting sustainable development in Mali, West Africa for one of the most vulnerable populations: the Dogon people.
Through partnering with Dogon Dreams and the Dogon-lead Malian Association for Education, Health, and Sustainable Development, we can connect students to Dogon children and culture to meet our educational goals. At the heart of any cultural sharing that we do with children is the belief that people from that living culture must be involved in deciding what and how to share.
It is also important that we engage children with the lived reality of culturous people today and where they fit into the story. We do this while balancing resources by contributing to their school supply and women’s microcredit funds - two initiatives that are part of this community’s sustainable development strategy.
We also hope to engage these Malian youth with those in other parts of the world in sustainable development projects that they research, design, and implement collaboratively.
This, our pilot program and the relationships within, is something that we hope to replicate in other parts of the world.
